Stalin and the Five Year Plans
Stalin's technique to take Germany forward was using five year plans. Stalin believed there was need for these five- year plans as : First of all many of the regions were behind other countries in growth and that the USSR were backward Stalin believed that to be be backward you are defeated and enslaved but if you are powerful people must beware of you. Stalin also believed (with Lenin) the USSR should overtake and out strip the capitalist countries He believed Socialism in one country and the USSR would be powerful enough to survive then would take over the rest of the world.Another reason for the 5 year plans was because he believed that Germany would invade and in one of his speechs he said ââ¬Å"If we make a good difference in 10 years or so they will crush us. Lastly the 5 year plans included a lot of useful propaganda which helped protray Stalin as a very pleasant and powerful man. In the first five year plan Stalin focused on radip industrialisation. He demanded a 200% increa se in iron production and a 335% in electrical power. To do this Stalin used alot of prisoners as they were cheap and in a large supply.If a worker was found guilty of treason for any reason they would either be shot or sent to forced labor on the Baltic Sea Canal or the Siberian railway. In Soviet Union workers constructed damns,roads,railways and canals which all helped to expand the industry and manufacturing. Although factory output soared as a result of the first Five year plan the agricultural production was damaged. In 1932, grain production was 32 % below average whic resulted in a widespread famine. Second plan For the Second FIve Year Plan, Stalin expanded the goals of his previous plan and continued to emphasise on heavy industry.This plan's aim was to advance the Soviet Unions communication systems especially railways which improved in speed and reliability. The Second Five Year Plan didnt reach the level of success that the First Five Year plan did with the production l evels in coal and oil industries. The First Five year plan encouraged a high status family life and In the Second Five Year Plan initiated a lower standard of living as consumer preferences were disregarded and focus shifted toward military goods and heavy industry Third PlanThe Third Five year plan lasted for only three year, as it was interrupted by Germany's declaration of war on the Soviet Union During world war II. Stalin continued to implement additional Five Yer Plans in the Years following WWII. By 1952 the industrial production was nearly double 1941 level. Stalin's Five Year Plans helped transform the Soviet Union from an untrained Society of Peasent to an advanced industrial economy.

However, their population was increasing side by side, and at a much rapid pace. Moreover, the colonies in the New World were getting independent and forming the United States of America, so the trade and commerce was divided, with Britain taking the lead (Smitha). The population of France had increased by five or six million in a span of roughly fifty years, whereas the food production was still slow and rudimentary, unsuitable to provide for the increase in the people to be fed (Smitha). In the 1780s, Paris alone had a population of 650,000 (Smitha). However, around eighty percent of the crop production around Paris was done for personal consumption by the farmers, and only around twenty percent was available in the market (Smitha). This meant that any loss in the yield, which happened frequently due to poor methods of farming and feudal system, made the common man go hungry (Smitha). This was worsened by the fact that the French economy was by large an agricultural economy, so there was no other major source of income for the government (Smitha). The government had not provided any means of storage or relief in times of need, and so the prices of bread, the staple food of the French, rose as the availability declined (Smitha). Moreover, the textile industry, which was till then a leading industry, was overtaken by the British who provided cheaper and better quality cloth to the French, thereby decreasing French export and increasi ng their import (Smitha). These, and many other economic and political factors led to a great divide between the ruling class and the common man. In 1788, there was a terrible hailstorm, which led to the worst crop yield in forty years, giving way to a most severe winter season (Smitha). Most of the people were jobless. A riot broke out (Smitha), which soon formed the shape of the revolution that went in history as the French Revolution. The intellectual and philosophical reasons behind the revolution were as important as the economic and political motives. There were two distinct groups of thinkers and socialites, the conservatives and the radicals (Cody). It is interesting to note that this intellectual revolution, for the most part, originated elsewhere outside of France, mostly in Britain, but it effected the French in the most potent manner, who rose to rebel against the established regime (Cody). There rebellion, in turn, effected the British and the rest of Europe in a profou nd way. The conservatives sided with Newton and Locke, and believed in reason, whereas, the radicals included Blake, Godwin, and Paine, among others (Cody). The French were then more influenced by the radicals who promised equality, brotherhood, and freedom (Cody). Physiology of the Heart Anatomy 1. Illustrate and describe the gross anatomy of the heart. Include the layers of the heart wall, chambers, valves, structures and major blood vessels connected to the heart. Indicate direction of flow. Include your own diagram. The heart is a complex biological electrical pump. It is found in mediastinum of the thorax. Surrounding the heart is the pericardium, which contains serous fluid, allowing the heart to move freely within the membrane. (1) The outside surface of the heart is known as the epicardium, the inner surface of the heart muscle; the myocardium and the innermost surface; the endocardium. The heart itself can be separated into 4 chambers which are filled with blood when the heart is relaxed, and pumped out of when the heart contracts. (1) They are separated into the left and right side, which are distinct, and into atria (singular atrium) and ventricles. The atria and ventricles are separated by the coronary sinus or AV groove. Between the right atrium and right ventricle is the Tricuspid Valve which is made up of 3 leaflets. Deoxygenated blood feeds into the right atrium from the Vena Cava (which is separated into the superior and inferior vena cava ââ¬â superior from the head, neck and arms and the inferior from the lower limbs and the abdomen). (1) The right ventricle feeds into the pulmonary artery which carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs. Blood is then oxygenated and fed back to the heart through the pulmonary vein. This fills the left atrium and subsequently, flows through the Mitral Valve into the left ventricle.. (1) As the heart contracts, this pushe s the blood into the aorta, which feeds through to the major arteries in the body. Within the base of the aorta lies some very small arteries known as the coronary arteries. These feed the heart tissue with oxygenated blood and drain into the right atrium, with the systemic deoxygenated blood. (1) 2. Briefly describe the function of the pericardial cavity As mentioned before, the heart and roots of the great vessels (aorta, vena cava, pulmonary vein and artery) is surrounded with a very strong membrane known as the pericardium. It is a double walled structure, made up of the fibrous pericardium on the outermost surface of the heart, and an inner serous pericardium. (1)The fibrous pericardium is made of very dense connective tissue, and contains many collagen fibres. It prevents overfilling of the heart and anchors it to the surrounding walls of the thoracic cavity.(2) The serous pericardium can be differentiated into two layers, the parietal layer, which is fused and continuous with the fibrous pericardium, and the visceral pericardium which can also be known as the epicardium. Between these layers is a potential space known as the pericardial cavity, filled with about 50mls of serous fluid. (2) This potential space is extremely important as it allows the heart to move freely within the space by keeping the transmural cardiac pressure s very low, as well as facilitating atrial filling during ventricular systole by maintaining a negative pericardial pressure. It also prevents hypertrophy of the heart under strenuous exercise, keeping the heart muscle a relatively constant size. (2) The membranes completely isolate the heart from the thoracic cavity which prevents spread of disease or infection. Its importance is particularly obvious when there are cases of pericardial tamponade ââ¬â build-up of fluid in the pericardial cavity which causes compression of the heart. (2) Without the pericardial cavity, the heart would not be able to pump as efficiently as it would have to overcome the pressures exerted on it by the surroundings, which would just add to the work of the cardiac muscle.(2) 3. Illustrate and describe the anatomy of the electrical conduction system of the heart. Briefly describe the blood supply to the electrical conduction system. The electrical impulse originates at the Sino Atrial Node in the right atrium. This impulse travels through the cardiac muscle ââ¬â through the many gap junctions, as well as through the intermodal pathways or Bachmanââ¬â¢s bundle. (1) At the level of the atrio-ventricular valves, there is another node called the Atrio-Ventricular Node (AV Node) that has properties that delay the stimulus. Following this, the impulse travels down the left and right bundle branch fibres in the ventricular septum, into the bundles of His which travel up the ventricular walls and branch into Purkinje fibres. The stimulus reaches the apex of the heart first, and then travels up towards the outflow tracts resulting in coordinated depolarisation and contraction. (1) This coordination is a result of both the coordination of the stimulus as well as the layout of the myocytes, as well as the ease at which the electrical signal is able to propagate through cardiac muscle.(3) Sino Atrial Node is usually supplied oxygenated blood by the Right Coronary Artery (RCA) or the Left Coronary Artery (LCA) though this is variable. In most people, the AV Node is supplied by the AV Node Artery branch of the Posterior Descending Artery which is a branch off the RCA, though in some it will be supplied by the same artery, just as a branch of the left Circumflex Artery. (3) All of the fibres downstream from this point are supplied by the Left Anterior Descending artery with exception of the His fibres, which are also supplied by the AV Node Artery. (3) Conduction 1. Illustrate and describe the propagation of a single beat through the electrical conduction system and the relationship to the surface ECG. Include in your answer a discussion on conduction velocity through the various components and list the normal ECG intervals. An ECG works by detecting the electrical change in the heart through sensors that are put on the surface of the skin. Direction is determined through the use of electrical vectors generated by many hundreds of individual cells. (4) The P wave is the first small wave in the ECG. It reflects the spread of depolarisation through the atria from the SA node. The normal range is à ¬0.08-0.1seconds. After the P wave there is a brief isoelectric stage when the current is flowing through the AV node, and the conduction is slowed. This is known as the PR interval and it is usually 0.12-0.2seconds. (4) The QRS complex shows the very strong electrical signal and resulting contraction that forces blood into the aorta and pulmonary artery. It is about 0.06-1seconds, which shows just how fast depolarisation spreads through the ventricles (its shape has been idealised on the schematic below). (1) After the QRS complex there is another isoelectric period which indicates plateau phase of depolarisation. The T wave is the repolarisation of the ventricles ââ¬â in preparation for the next beat the duration between the P and T waves usually approximately 0.2-0.4seconds, though this is dependent on heart rate.(4) The U wave is a very rarely seen artefact and is thought to reflect the repolarisation of the papillary muscles that control the valves. Briefly describe the ionic movement that occurs during each phase of the myocardial and SA node action potential. Include a labelled illustration of both action potentials in your answer. The myocardial action potential is quite complex with influxes and effluxes of 3 different ions, changing the membrane potential as contraction occurs. There are 5 distinct phases of the myocardial action potential. (1) These are shown in the figure 4 below. Between phase 0 and 2 there is an absolute refractory period where it is impossible to invoke another action potential. This allows even more coordination of the spread of a stimulus.(1) The ECG trace shown below the action potential shows where the stages of contraction occur that can be extrapolated out into the ventricular depolarisation (QRS complex) and the ventricular repolarisation (T wave) Depolarisation Repolarisation ECG Cells in the SA node are pacemaker cells and have a property which is known as automaticity. They do not need activation to fire an action potential.(1) They are very similar to myocytes but have several key differences in their action potentials (see figure 5). Phase 0 is significantly slower in the pacemaker cells of the SA node as it is dependent on the activation of L-type calcium channels instead of Sodium channels, which makes the depolarisation significantly slower at this phase.(1) During Phase 1, repolarisation of the membrane occurs leading to a period of pacemaker potential, where the membrane potential gradually depolarises through constant Na2+ leakage into the cell. When the action potential is triggered automatically, Phase 0 commences. Pacemaker cells do not have phase 1 and 2. (1) Figure 5: SA Node Action Potential 3. Describe the role of escape pacemakers in the conduction system. The SA node is entirely autonomous which means that it does not need external innervation or activation to fire. Other areas of the heart are heteronomous which means they need an external source of action potential to stimulate them to produce one. (1) Some specific cells along the conduction fibres possess both of these properties. This is so that if the SA Node fails for some reason, they can activate themselves and this allows the heart to beat, even without a functional SA Node. (1) Each area will have a slower rate of autonomy as it gets further downstream from the SA Node to prevent competition between the different areas. (5) This is very useful when the SA Node fails, and the AV Node takes over as the AV Node can maintain a BPM of about 40-60 BPM which is still slow but can maintain life for a reasonable amount of time. Further downstream the Bundles of His can maintain about 25-40 BPM and the Purkinje fibers about 15-30BPM which cannot maintain life for any reasonable perio d of time, though it can help during some forms of arrhythmias which prevent the signal reaching the Purkinje fibers/Bundles of His. (6) This is also where Escape beats originate, and this is seen on the ECG as a widened QRS Complex. 4. Discuss the role of decremental conduction in the AV node. Decremental conduction means the more the AV node is stimulated, the slower it conducts the stimulus. This allows a control over how fast the blood is pumped out. The faster the contractions, the less time between them for filling of the heart and therefore less blood is pumped out. (1) The AV Node slows down the stimulus so that there is an element of control of how fast the signal reaches the apex of the heart and prevents the ventricles from contracting so fast that the cardiac output drops too low.(7) It is extremely important that the AV node is able to slow down the conduction velocity, even as it gets activated more and more frequently. It is even able to block out some signals. This is clearly seen in patients with atrial fibrillation. (7) The only way for the signal to travel to the ventricles is through the AV node (due to the insulating fibrous skeleton that prevents atrial cell ââ¬â ventricular cell depolarisation spread). (7) If the AV node allowed conduction of ever y single depolarisation, an atrial fibrillation would be fatal as the cardiac output would become too low, and the ventricle would go into ventricular fibrillation, which is fatal without intervention. It is the decremental properties of the AV node that prevent this from occurring. (7) 5. Explain the term ââ¬Ëfunctional syncytiumââ¬â¢ and its significance in the cardiac muscle contraction. A functional syncytium by definition is a group of cells that are both mechanically and electrically bound to one another, so they are able to function as one. This is extremely important in cardiac muscle contraction.(1) One of the main reasons that the heart is able to work so effectively is that the contractions and depolarisations are always coordinated. (8) There is no coordination without communication, which are the electrical signals that are passed between the myocytes. (1) This extremely effective communication is completely useless unless the cardiac myocytes are mechanically bound, so that when they do contract, it is as a whole. The specialization, which is unique to cardiac muscle, that allows it to be a functional syncytium is a structure called intercalated discs. (8) They contain three types of intercellular junctions; many fascia adherens and desmosomes, for mechanical connection, and many gap junctions allowing for direct communication between neighbouring cells. ( 1) Another interesting property that contributes to the functional syncytium is the fact that cardiac muscle has an innate rhythmicity. This means that at the level of the muscle, the myocytes will exhibit the rhythm of the cell with the fastest rhythm. Tescos Management And Leadership Theories Tesco is a company which was founded in 1919 by a man called Jack Cohen, a grocery seller from a stall in London. The Tesco brand originally first appeared after he had brought a shipment of tea from T.E Stockwell and the first Tesco store was opened in 1929. It started off as selling the usual food and drink products but since then expanded into areas offering alternative goods such as, clothing, electronics, finance services, mobile network, car, dental, home and health insurance, CDs, DVDs and Games. Tesco UK stores operate under four banners which are Extra, Superstore, Metro and Express to meet different customer needs. Tesco can also be found on the London Stock Exchange. Tesco has à £62.54 billion in revenue as well as à £3.41 billion income from February 2010 and has 4,811 locations around the country; nevertheless Tesco has become the biggest British retailer and is one of the worlds largest retailing outlet. Mainly its growth is due to the fact that in the workplace, it has a workforce of 552,004 employees. To sustain its growth, Tesco has to make sure that they have the staff who are motivated, flexible and well-trained and who can be aware of the customer needs. Tesco sustain their employees in a range of roles and at different levels in the workplace from customer assistant to department manager and warehouse to logistics staff. Tesco recognise this as they need employee motivation to continue their growth. Motivation is the driving force which set out to achieve an individuals goal. There are different theories that have been suggested for motivating employees. The main factor for motivating employees is Pay, which is considered a primary motivator. Other motivating factors include: Appreciation of hard work e.g. incentives A sense of achievement Responsibility and empowerment Opportunity for development A sense of challenge and enjoyment If Tesco have a motivated workforce then they will have a variety of employees who will work hard and achieve their potential in less time, which will endeavour Tesco to reduce cost in labour and less supervision of their employees. On the other hand this will demonstrate their pride to work for Tesco, therefore create a better impact on consumers. Encouraged employees are more likely to focus better and are less likely to make mistakes, cause conflicts and accidents in the workplace. In general this shows they have greater loyalty for the consumer and have fewer absentees. The opposite of a motivated workforce is an unmotivated workforce, which are employees in Tesco being dissatisfied in the role they play for the company. This can negatively affect the quality of the work they produce and how professionally they carry out their work and how this will affect Tesco as a business but also the products they display on the shop floor. Tesco focus on two groups, their staff and customers to achieve motivation by offering them rewards to support stability in the personal and work life. Such rewards are staff discount, flexible working and gym membership. The theory to motivate shows that Taylor said one that is motivated works purely for money. Tesco has a similar link to Taylors theory as they have an employee reward programme which offers financial reward packaging to motivate the workers. On the other hand there are other factors which take into place of motivating a person; they are personal and working lives. Tesco go beyond Taylors theory as they do more than pay increasing, they support the different lifestyles of each individual that works for them by using important benefits. For example in Tesco, staff may desire to serve people or improve their basic understanding and skills. To make job satisfaction achievable for their staff, Tesco create a good working environment where they want to have their employees feeling valued and therefore it increases communication and employees are asked for their opinions of how they are experience this. As Tesco are a big organisation they invest into training and development for its staff which enables them to develop their understanding, skill and sense of their job satisfaction. For example in my own workplace at Sports Direct they create a good working environment as I was trained on the till and had people helping me which developed my understanding of the business. By using surveys, Tesco ask their staff to attend a staff satisfaction survey which is done by viewpoint and gives the staff to get across their views on the job they do. From the survey it shows Tesco what they need to do in order to keep their employees motivated and to ensure that they are achieving job satisfaction. The benefits offered to employees the following Lifestyle breaks which offer you 4-12 week off from work but then you are allowed to return after as it guarantees you dont lose your job, career breaks which allows staff working in Tesco between the 6 months and 5 years away from work but also they have the right to return and pension scheme which defies the long term benefits staff can have when they reach a certain age. Other ways in which job satisfaction is achieved for the staff working in Tesco is the way they look after their employee. This makes their employees feel that the job is secure and the company is looking after them and therefore it makes them produce work of a high quality. Using Herzberg two-factor theory which outlines the main two factors hygiene and the satisfiers also know as motivators. Hygiene factors are put in place in a business such as Tesco to avoid what is called unpleasantness in the workplace. If these factors are thought to be insufficient by the employees then this would mean that they are dissatisfied by working there. Motivator factors are for individual people for their personal growth, the motivator side dynamically creates the job satisfaction. If they are effective, then they can motivate the individual to reach an above-average performance as well as effort. Herzberg showed that to truly motivate an employee a business needs to create conditions that make him or her feel fulfilled in the workplace For example Hygiene factors like pay can lead to an employee at Tesco being dissatisfied as this will show the employee is being paid a rate which has not increased from the time he has spent at Tesco. However the motivators like promotion opportunities in Tesco will satisfy the employee as they are moving up a level in the department and not staying in one department from where they started from. This will acknowledge how well they are working for the company. For example, it can motivate and empower its employees by using suitable and well-timed communication to effectiveness, by appointing responsibility and involving employees in their own decision making in key areas of their working life. Tesco using forums every year in which staff can be part of the discussions on pay rises if they wish they need to. This will show acknowledgment of the work Tesco people do and reward them. For example Tesco staff can even influence what food goes onto its restaurant menus. As a result of doing this the employees therefore become motivated to make choices that will increase their use of the restaurants that Tesco have within the organisation. That way job satisfaction achievable as it is used to a very high level in Tesco as they value each and every one of their member of staff so they achieve their potential and the company grows and has a high-quality reputation. I think it is important for line managers to have an understanding of these theories in concept as they need to know how to motivate their employees working below them to get the best out of them, productivity wise. However if managers on the front line do not have an impact then this will limit how they motivate or else not trusting them will reduce their motivational efficiency. Managers this way can understand what the employee is working toward such as the goals and objectives that they set and how well they are managing their time to get the work done for a company like Tesco for example. It gives the manager a chance to be impress by the employee and the quality of the work therefore shows which member is committed to doing well and making sure the company goes in the right direction, On the other hand managers would want to know the pros and cons of which is the best way of the motivating concept through various theories in order to stand out from anyone else and the quality in production and reputation it achieves at the end by doing this. It gives the manager a chance to communicate and understand the employee effectively, to engage the key skills he may have to offer to him, work wise and how motivated he is in-order to get on with what he is asked to do. The best way to understand this is to interact with your employees to gain knowledge otherwise the key efficiency to work at a higher level and to produce the quality you would want to will not happen, unless you communicate with the manager and he communicates with you. To conclude by looking at different theories of motivation, how job satisfaction is achieved and how important line managers are, you can find out various ways in which Tesco can motivate their employees to get the best out of them by using incentives for hard workers and rewards as well as promotion. On the other hand you can also see the negative effects this can have if you have unmotivated employees in the workplace which reduces the morale and that person quality to produce at the highest level proposed from them. I recommend that by achieving an employees job satisfaction and motivation but also bringing into action how the line manager should have a good understanding of these theories. Tesco get employees who work well in a good environment but also one where they are valued for the hard work they produce to meet the aims and objectives of the organisation, but also the goals they set for themselves to improve the desire for working in a warm atmosphere but also the drive tha t managers have in Tesco for their employees to achieve their potential. Vietnam The Socialist Republic of Vietnam consists of the former Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) and the former Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). The division of the country resulted from the defeat of the French by Communist-inspired nationalists in 1954. A prolonged civil war resulted in a victory for the Communist north, and reunification occurred in mid-1976. Physical Setting Vietnam has an area of 127,207 square miles (329,465 square kilometers) and is located in Southeast Asia. The country has a coastline of nearly 1,440 miles (2,317 kilometers), much of which fronts on the South China Sea. Border countries are China, Cambodia, and Laos. The latter two countries, along with Vietnam, constituted the former French Indochina. Northern Vietnam is quite mountainous, especially the extreme north and northwest. The Red River (Song Hong), which originates in China's Yunnan Province, is the principal river of the north and is about 725 miles (1,167 kilometers) in length. The major lowland area is a delta that has been created by deposits from the Red River as it enters the Gulf of Tonkin. The river passes through the capital city of Hanoi. For more than 2,000 years the Tonkin Lowland, considered the cradle of Vietnamese civilization, has been the scene of considerable water control efforts in the form of canals and dikes. The southernmost portion of the country is dominated by another lowland that is much more extensive than that in the north. This lowland has essentially been created by the Mekong River (Song Cuu Long) and its various tributaries. Just north of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) the landscape becomes more varied and rolling with forested hills. The central portion of Vietnam varies in width but is only 35 miles (56 kilometers) at its narrowest point. This region has only a narrow coastal strip in contrast to the rest of the coastline, where wider lowlands exist. An Analysis of Poetry by Langston Hughes Theme for English B begins by Hughes describing the specific instructions for an assignment given to him by an instructor. I feel the understanding of that assignment to be one of the major clues to the meaning of this piece of poetry. "Go home and write a page tonight. And let that page come out of you- Then, it will be true." At my first glance of this poem I felt I had the idea Hughes was expressing down, but these instructions caught my eye. It grabbed my attention because I did not feel that the statement given by the instructor was necessarily true in itself. Since the instructor did not say "be true to you" at the end of this phrase, he was actually saying that whatever comes out of a person is true. Now in my lifetime I have found, early on as a matter of fact, that many thoughts that come from people are actually no true at all. This being my reasoning I was having a rather hard time moving on to the meat of the poem.

The key question in this case is can LVMH continue to successfully manages of its different brands while making sure they are all profitable. I like the focus that the company puts on its ââ¬Å"star brandsâ⬠. Focusing on the brands that continue to grow and bring in profits will help the company stay profitable. While focusing on the star brands is a good strategy it is far from all that LVMH needs to do to be a successful conglomerate. It appears that in the fashion world human resources are the most valuable asset that a company can have, and LVMH needs to do a much better job treasuring these assets.The conglomerate damages its image and its profitability by mistreating its creative talent. The conglomerateââ¬â¢s image is damaged because key creative personnel, which in a sense are the face of the different brands, leave and publicize why they left which tarnishes the conglomerateââ¬â¢s image thus making it harder to attract the best talent in the market. The conglomer ateââ¬â¢s profitability is jeopardized because they lose the designers that make the products that make the companies profitable.LVMH could strengthen their relationships with the smaller companies by creating incentive programs that not only compensate based on volume of sales but incentive programs that compensate based on sales growth and maintained profitability. With this new incentive program the company would have more opportunity to recognize the Michael Kors of the company. LVMH should focus more on economies of scope. In some cases like advertising it appears the conglomerate uses its size and power to reduce the cost to the individual companies; however I feel that the conglomerate could do much more to reduce costs and increase profits for the firms.They could be using their negotiating power to force suppliers into lower prices. They should encourage the individual companies to work together and provide ideas for each other this way they can strengthen relationships among the companies and create a more unified feel for the conglomerate. Finally LVMH should make sure that they are avoiding managerialism. They need to make sure the companies that are acquired are actually valuable to the conglomerate as a whole and that they are not cannibalizing profits from one or more of the current companies.
Ethical Issues in Work Groups Essay
Therapeutic pressure, unlike undue pressure, enables members of a group to help each other discover their individual answers without pressurizing them to accept the answers deemed appropriate by the group. Group thinking enhances unanimity, mental efficiency and moral judgement that are appropriate which each person (William, 1995). In the first five sessions, the leader acted ethically since he provided ample time to explore the views, fears, expectations and interpersonal relationships of the members. He also told them about the risks of potential changes that may occur after the session and assessed their preparedness. However, the leader failed the ethical test in the sixth session by asking Kevin to develop romantic feelings towards Lydia yet she was not his partner (Jameson, 2001). Kevin had already confessed that it was against his religious convictions and commitment on monogamous relationship. He failed to respect Kevinââ¬â¢s values and imposed his own belief on the client. If I was Ryanââ¬â¢s co-leader, I would have delayed the role-play experiment until such a time when we could have gathered enough information that does not compromise the values of each individual. In addition, giving Kevin an ultimatum to complete his assignment was undue pressure since it conflicted with his values and the duties he was given (Herlihy & Corey, 2005). Although a group leader might have been faced with the dilemma of identifying personal issues that do not conflict with other members, he had to perform a thorough background check to get enough information that could have enabled him to make informed decisions (McKee, 2004). This would have enabled him to respect the cultural diversity present within group members. To develop Kevinââ¬â¢s assertiveness, I would have invited Hannah and coached Kevin on how he ought to treat her in his first assignment. Autobiography: Dance and Middle School Essay
Autobiography My name is Rickeya Ward. I was born December 26, 1997 and yes fortunately the day after Christmas. I am 15 years old and I have one brother and sister Iââ¬â¢m the middle child. I was born in Galloway, NJ where I lived for a little. I have a very different name; I was named after my dad. My dadââ¬â¢s name means powerful ruler so my name must have the same meaning since itââ¬â¢s just about alike. I have a well-rounded personality. I never had problems making new friends I always got along with everyone. I am very outgoing. When I was in middle school I would play and try out for every sport I could get into. When I meet new people sometimes I happen to be very shy and quiet. Sometimes I like being very aware of my surroundings when I meet new people. People find me to be funny and interesting when they meet me. It feels good to have good vibes with people. When I was younger I had dreams of being a big time fashion model and traveling the world as a fashion icon. I wished I could be on Americas Next Top Model for a short period of time. I like learning new things that enriches me. I always did well when I was in school. When I was in elementary and middle school I was on the Honor Roll and Merit Roll. I always strive for the highest grades at school. I received a lot of awards. I am a very hard person on myself. I can be considered as a perfectionist because I have very high expectations for myself. Another thing I like about school is meeting new people and having different challenges come against me each year. School is very interesting to me with the different subjects every year and the different things I learn. When I learn about each subject it informs me about something that maybe come up in the future to help me. I tried so many different sports in my life. I played soccer, field hockey, track, swimming and cheerleading. When I was in middle school I thought I could do it all. The sports that I actually take pleasure in is track, cheerleading and I would love to try this year is crew. When I was in the 5th grade I studied and played the Clarinet. It was an amusing instrument to play but playing an instrument just wasnââ¬â¢t my thing. Something I have a true passion for is dancing. Dance is basically life for me besides my other dreams. When I dance it frees my mind from everything Iââ¬â¢m thinking about. The dancing I study is Ballet and Hip hop. I did tap dancing for about two years but I decided to take a break. A program that I do is Champions of youth which makes sure you are on the right track and doing what youââ¬â¢re supposed to. On my free time I like reading books and shopping. The type of books I am delighted in are the realistic books that can relate to real life stories. Just like other teens I cannot live without my cell phone or my electronics that is a huge part of my life. While I am in high school I would like to stay focused and on task. I want to graduate a good number in the class and go to a good college. I want to go to college to become a lawyer. My dream since I was young was to become a lawyer. While I been in school I had previous people tell me I would become a lawyer because the way I disputed my points. I didnââ¬â¢t decide what type of lawyer I wanted to become yet. A big goal I am trying to achieve is going to a great college and becoming a big time lawyer. One of the icons I always looked at as a great lawyer was Johnnie Cochran. Heââ¬â¢s been an inspiring lawyer for me. I have big dreams of living in a nice house and eventually getting married. In 10 years I will be graduating law school hopefully going to good law firm. I want to have no worries in the world at all. My dream is just becoming successful and knowing that I did from hard work. I have high and big goals for myself that I am going to achieve. I have a dedicated mind for what I want to become. After I pursued my career of being a lawyer I want to become a dancer as a side job or open a dance school for other youth that loves dancing. Activities of Youth for Environment in Schools Essay
Background of the Study Pursuant to its promising mission and vision, the Department of Education (DepEd) for years, has been implementing and adhering numerous means and methods to improve and empower the quality of education in the Philippines: be it a new alternative teaching method or a new policy that shall formalize education or any possible way. One of the DepEdââ¬â¢s accredited organizations is the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) with the mission: to preserve and conserve our natural resources through environmental awareness of the community resulting in their active involvement on environmentally-related issues to achieve sustainable development and to protect mother nature; and vision: the Youth for Environment in Schools-Organization as an effective and respective school- based environmental organization linked with the agencies/ institutions for conservation and preservation of natural resources towards sustainable development. (DepEd Region V) Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and Activities of Youth for Environment in Schools-Organizationââ¬â¢s Constitutions and By-Laws for School Year 2010-2011 includes the projects and activities that YES-O should implement through the School Year 2010-2011. The study aims to determine whether the activities and projects stated in Article XVIII of YES-O by-laws has been implemented throughout the school year 2010-2011. Specific Questions: 1. What is the mission and vision of YES-O in the Bicol Regional Science High School for the School Year 2010-2011? 2. What are the projects, programs and activities implemented by Youth for Environment in Schools Organization as indicated on their accomplishment report or year-end reports in accordance of Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and activities? 3. Which among their projects, programs and activities in accordance to the mission and vision indicated in the Article XVIII which is not implemented? 4. What are the factors affecting the implementation of Article XVIII of Mandated projects and Activities? Significance of the Study The Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and Activities which is stated in YES-O By-Laws states that the Youth for environment in Schools- Organization shall be required to implement, conduct or attend the following programs, projects, and activities; namely, clean-up drives, waste management, segregation and recycling, awareness campaigns, symposia or training, nursery establishment, tree planting activities, fun run and Youth for environment Summer Camp. Through this, the researchers will analyze the year-end report of YES-O in BRSHS school year 2010-2011 to determine whether all the mandated projects and activities stated in Article XVIII of YES-O by- Laws were implemented through the school year. Teachers, students, officers of Youth for Environment Schools- Organization and other organization will be benefited with this study through the improvements of their projects and activities. Also, through this study the researchers will be able to determine the factor that affects the implementation of the projects and activities. With this, other organizations including YES-O would have solutions to those factors and can have better improvements with their programs and activities. Scope and Limitations The study will only focus on the implementation of Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and Activities of Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) of Bicol Regional Science High School (BRSHS) through the school year 2010-2011. The study aims to determine whether all the mandated projects and activities stated in Article XVIII was implemented by YES- O through the school year 2010-2011. Also, the study aims to determine the factors affecting the implementation of Article XVIII of YES-O by-laws. Conceptual Framework Article XVIII Mandated Projects and Activities The Youth for Environment I Schools- Organization (YES-O) shall be required to implement, conduct or attend the following programs, projects and activities; namely, clean-up drives, waste management, segregation and recycling, awareness campaigns, symposia or training, nursery establishments, tree- planting activities, fun run and Youth for Environment Summer Camp. Vision The Youth for environment in Schools organization as n effective and respective school-based environmental organization linked with the other agencies/ institutions for conservation and preservation of natural resources towards sustainable development. Mission To preserve and conserve our natural resources through environmental awareness of the community resulting in their active involvement on environmentally related issues to achieve sustainable development and to protect mother nature. Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature and Studies The Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the Technological Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), in coordination with OCD, the National Youth Commission (NYC), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the DILG- BFP, the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD), and other relevant agencies, shall integrate disaster risk reduction and management education in the school curricula of secondary and tertiary levels of education including the National Service Training Program (NSTP), whether private and public, including formal and non-formal, technical-vocational, indigenous learning and out-of-school youth congress and programs. (Sandra C. Velacruz,2011) It is important to put a prime on disaster risk reduction and management. When our systems are efficient, it increases and enhances human security. Republic Act No. 10121 also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) of 2010 strengthens the Philippine disaster risk reduction and management framework, institutionalizes the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRM), and appropriate funds for the use of its implementers. It calls for the development of a framework that taps the different sectors, agencies, and communities that will address disaster risk reduction and management concerns. (Sandra C. Velacruz, 2011) The Department of Education (DepEd), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), establishes the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) as the only recognized co-curricular environment club or organization in the school with the main and primary programs or projects for the environment on ecology in the said organization. (DepEd, 2003) The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) is the youth arm of both Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to heighten pupils and studentsââ¬â¢ participation and action towards environment protection and conservation at the school level. As a co-curricular organization, it shall implement programs, projects, and activities that address various environmental issues and concerns such as global warming, climate change adaptation, deforestation, watershed protection, disaster risk reduction, among others. (Yolanda S. Quijano, 2010) The Regional and Division Education Supervisors in Science, as Regional and Division coordinator respectively, shall lead, coordinate and monitor the conduct of activities pertinent to the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization in the respective areas of jurisdiction. The Science Department Head/ Coordinator and Teacher, herein designated as School ââ¬âbased Moderator respectively, shall lead operate the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) activities in the school level with the guidance of School Head/ Principal. (Edilberto C. De Jesus, 2003) In view of the increasing global concerns for environmental action against threats to mother earth and consequent need to consolidate all efforts in safeguarding, protecting, and conserving the environment, and pursuant to the Department of Education order No. 72, s. 2003 on the establishment of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is announcing the Thrusts and Activities of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O). (Vilma L. Labrador, 2007) The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) on its partnership with concerned government and non- government organizations undertake tree planting and growing, awareness campaigns and symposia on Environmental Issues and Actions, Outreach programs, Waste management, Segregation, Recycling and Entrepreneurship programs, watershed Protectin and Conservation, Environmental/ Science Camps. (Vilma L. Labrador, 2007) The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) which is one of the Department of Education accredited organization helps to strengthens the government program concerning global warming, climate change, adaptation, reforestation, watershed protection, and disaster risk reduction. The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) is advised to conduct the activities in increasing global concerns for environmental action against threats to our planet in partnership with the government agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) . Chapter 3 Methods of Research and Procedures Methods of Research The method of research used in the study is the descriptive method, specifically the content analysis. Content analysis focuses on the documentary materials that shall be analyzed. The documents to be analyzed are the year-end report or the accomplishment report of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) for the school year 2010-2011. The programs, projects, and activities which were stated in Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and Activities of Youth for Environment in Schools Organization will be the basis for the analysis of the year-end report. The year-end report of the YES-O contains the projects, programs, and activities which were implemented in the school year 2010-2011. Method of Collecting Data and Development of the Research Instrument The researchers will conduct interviews with selected members and non-members of the YES-O and its officers in Bicol Regional Science High School. Interview Schedule will be the instrument to be used during the interview. This will include specific questions on how the YES-O implemented the mandated projects and activities which are stated in Article XVIII of the YES-O Constitution and By- Laws. Sampling Design The study will determine if the programs, projects, and activities stated in Article XVIII of the YES-O Constitution and By-laws for the school year 2010-2011 are implemented through analyzing their year-end report or accomplishment report. The organization has forty-three members, twenty of them will be chosen through random or lottery sampling. This type of probability sampling is used so that everyone in the population has equal chance of being selected to be included in the sample. Since the population has no differentiated levels or classes, pure random sampling is used. The researchers will conduct three separate random samplings for the YES-O members and non- members. The size of the population for the YES-O members is forty- three (43) and the study population is twenty (20). For the non-members of YES-O, the size of population is one hundred thirty- one (131) and the study population will also be twenty (20) and for the officers, the study population is seven (7). Statistical Treatment The researchers conducted an interview with the members, non-members, and officers of the Youth for Environment in Schools- Organization (YES-O). With this, the researchers will use tables and other graphical forms for the interpretation of data as statistical treatment. Interview Schedule 1. Chapter 4 Results and Discussions The study shows the implementation of Article XVIII: Mandated Projects, Programs and Activities of Youth for Environment in Schools Organization in the school year 2010-2011. The researchers had conducted interviews with the members, non-members and officers of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization to determine if the programs, activities, and projects were implemented throughout the school year 2010-2011. The tables below show the results of the interviews: The interview shows that among the twenty selected members of the YES-O, three are aware of the mission and vision, while seventeen of them are not. On the other hand, four of the twenty non-members are aware of the mission and vision, and sixteen of them are otherwise. Ninety-five percent of the YES-O and non-YES-O members convey that the students, teachers, school and other organizations can be benefitted by the projects, programs, and activities implemented by the YES-O while 5% of the said that there is no benefit. On the other hand, 100% of the YES-O officers say that the students, teachers, school and other organizations can be benefitted by the projects, programs, and activities implemented by the YES-O. From the interviews with the YES-O and non-YES-O members, and the officers of the organization, environmental awareness is the most identified benefit with 15 responses from the members, eight responses from the non-members, and three from the officers. The budget for the projects of the YES-O has the highest number of responses from the members, non-members and officers, with 14, nine and five, respectively. Five YES-O officers also cited the factor of time and schedule. Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and Activities includes clean-up drives, waste management, segregation and recycling, awareness campaigns, symposia or training, nursery establishments, tree-planting activities, fun runs, and the Youth for Science and Technology Environment Camp (YSTEC). In the YES-O accomplishment report for school year 2010-2011, all projects and activities stated in article XVIII are included, except for the waste management, segregation and recycling and nursery establishments. The interview results show that the students are all aware of all the projects and activities stated in article XVIII. SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Summary The main purpose of the study is to determine if the projects, programs and activities held by the YES-O is in accordance to Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and Activities of the constitution and by-laws of the YES-O. The method of research used is the descriptive method, specifically the content analysis. Based from the results of the interviews, all the activities stated in Article XVIII, except for waste management, segregation, recycling and nursery establishment are implemented. Conclusion With reference to the results gathered, it can be concluded that the clean-up drives, awareness campaigns, symposia or training, nursery establishment, tree-planting activities, fun run, and Youth for Environment Summer Camp stated in Article XVIII: Mandated Projects and Activities are implemented by the YES-O school year 2010-2011, while the waste management, segregation and recycling and nursery establishment are not implemented based on their constitution and by-laws. Recommendations The researchers recommend that researches on future YES-O year-end reports be conducted in order to strengthen the foundation of this study. The researchers further recommend conducting studies to answer why most students are not aware of the mission and vision of YES-O.

For Cornelia the year only presented heartaches and hardships for she was forced to leave her genteel home in Winchester, Virginia for rundown accommodations in Lexington, where Cornelia was compelled to tutor young ladies to make the ends meet, after her hometown was taken over by Union Soldiers. A small patch of vegetable plot and a cow made a huge financial gap between the life with which Cornelia and her children were used to and the life she had to spend. à Her friends in town of Lexington, including the wife of General William Pendleton, helped Cornelia survive the difficult winter and spring of 1865. Though she survived the financial hardship borne of war and the loss of her husband, Cornelia's spirits reduced considerably with the termination of th e Confederacy as she sided with Union until the war broke out. But once the war began in earnest she adopted the Confederate cause with zeal. In the spring of 1865, Lexington became an impoverished town hosting a stream of black and white refugees. Cornelia was depressed after watching the rise of the slaves and the downfall of her own children, who now have to do laborious work to survive.
